You could try contacting each of the companies listed in this business directory. The first one seems to be a Spanish teaching school, where many of the others may focus on English.

While they may not be free, they may be able to refer you to cheap tutors, or even possibly free resources.

It’s not too late at all !

But, you need to be immersed in it to learn/ retain it. Online probably won’t cut it. It’s really great to be able to ask questions but you will not understand any of the answers you get unless you have practice speaking with real, live people.

Different people learn in different ways. A good immersion course is Rosetta Stone, you can get it online or in big bookstores. Try that first.

Also, for practice find a movie you have seen a few times and turn on the Spanish subtitles, then you can switch to Spanish audio with English subtitles later on.

Most important. You need to really want to do it and stick with it when it gets hard.

Hi!

Here’s a link where you will find great tips and advice plus a number of other links to great online resources: http://www.succeed-at-spanish.com/how-to-learn-spanish-online.html

… Such as …

Learn the basics using an online Spanish course for beginners. In my opinion http://www.spanishdict.com/learn offers a very good FREE course for complete beginners.

You will have to pay for better courses and some of them are quite expensive. I would suggest trying the free ones first to see how you get along and only then invest in the more expensive course (the best ones offer 30- to 90-day money back guarantees).

Once you feel confident enough with some basic Spanish you can practice speaking with Spanish-speakers around the world at http://verbling.com in exchange for English-speaking practice.

You can also stream Spanish TV legally and for free from TV channel websites such as:
but these can be quite difficult to follow while you’re still a beginner.

Are you creative!?

Alright, so I’m in Spanish IV, and we are teaching younger kids spanish lessons for a project grade. I was assigned to teach adverbs. I know that you add “mente” and I know the exceptions. I’m fine with adverbs, and I know all the stuff I need to for them. HOWEVER, since I’m going to be teaching younger kids I’m supposed to develope something (like a memory trick) to make it easier to learn/remember.

My friend used “how you feel and where you are that is when you use estar” to teach them about ser vs. estar.

Any suggestions to make adverbs easier? A memory trick? Rhyme? Anything?

Thanks.
I’m in highschool, and I’ll be teaching highschool freshmen. We are getting graded on how well we teach them. I don’t have to worry about ser vs. estar or anything other than adverbs. I just need a “trick” or “rhyme” to better teach adverbs. My teacher loves when we have them and she’ll grade me much higher if I have one (sad but true). I currently have an A, and I don’t want to lose that. College apps are too important.
I don’t know if this will help, but we used to build “super sentences” . We would start with : The cat ran. Then we would add all kinds of adverbs like quickly, swiftly, slowly, etc We would also add adjectives and the kids like to think them up and we ended up with a big long silly sentence but it really helped them learn adjectives vs. Adverbs, so maybe you could do something like this in Spanish.

Kumon has two programs in most countries: Math and Reading. The Reading program is English in most countries and includes vocabulary, grammar, reading comprehension and developing writing and independent learning skills. There are no French classes offered at Kumon. If you live in Spain or some countries in South America, and soon Mexico, the Reading/writing program is Spanish. In Brazil, there is Portuguese offered. And Japan has the most variety.

The only other program that is offered sometimes is Kokugo, but this is only available if the Kumon instructor is Japanese and wishes to offer it, so it is pretty rare.

Isabella answers:

What ever you do, don’t make it awkward for the students. My teachers used to make us dance and stuff like that. I hated it. Learning a different language to young kids is fun at first. I had Spanish all year last year (7th Grade). When we were going numbers, my spanish teacher created a coded puzzle. Like
A a B b C c D d E e and so on…
7 8 2 1 4 9 10 5 6 3 and so on…
Assign a number to each uppercase and lowercase letter, and have them spell their full names using the spanish number words. It was fun, and made it easy to learn.

Park City Independent offers spanish courses for high school credit. They are an accredited online school. Students can take individual courses to transfer to a local High School, or students can enroll full time and graduate with a High School diploma from PCI.

They also offer french, german, latin, and chinese.

Isabella answers:

For the numbers, just learn the numbers from 1-20, then 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80. 90, 100, 200. 300, 400, 500. 600. 700, 800, 900, 1000. From those you can build all the other numbers. For example:
999,000 = novecientos [900] noventa [90] y nueve [9] mil [1000]

In stem-changing verbs like acostar and querer, the stem changes to the diphthong form in stressed [accented] syllables only. So you say aCUESto and aCUEStas because the capitalized syllable is stressed, but acosTAmos because the -cos- syllable is not stressed.

in my house, there are two other french exchange students and i like the sound of french. i want to learn french fluently someday, maybe in the next 3 – 7 years.

I took Spanish in middle school for 2 years and then when I went to high school I took Spanish 3 and French 1. Then I took Spanish 4 and French 2 the next year, etc. Until I graduated.
When I got to college, I tested out of Spanish and French and got into the advance classes. It allowed to add another major because I had extra time. While I was in college, I got a lot of jobs that kids my age would not normally get. I worked at the a science institute that wanted me to retype scientific documents that were sent over the wire. I was paid a lot just because. I knew French. I teach and have an on line foreign business with my 19 year old daughter who is fluent in Japanese and Spanish. She started taking both in h.s. My son took Spanish and French and works for a fast food chain in their corporate office as head of their foreign language development section. So go for it!!!!!!!!! Congrats!! Let me know how it turns out.

Are French numbers based off Spanish?

Or is it the other way around? Because I entered French class in my school for the very first time, with zero idea of the French language, and we started learning about numbers. And since my language is mostly composed of Spanish words (although I’m NOT Spanish), some numbers, and even words, sound familiar, mostly because I think they’re derived from the Spanish language. For example, number 5 in French is cinq, and 30 is trente, and the Spanish version of these numbers sound similar, cinco and treinta respectively.

- What is Son las cinco y cuarto?
I thought it was 5:04, but the answer key says 5:15.

- What is Son Las seite menos veinte?

how would you say 12:55 in spanish, and why would you say it that way?
How do I know when to answer like so in the future?

Isabella answers:

What is Son las cinco y cuarto?
The answer is 5:15…..cinco means 5 and cuarto mean quarter.
You were thinking of cuatRo, which does mean 4, but be careful with those two words they are similar lol. But the placement of the R is different.
CuaRto = quarter
cuatRo = four

What is Son Las siete menos veinte?
Answer = 6:40
siete means seven
menos means less than/minus
and veinte means twenty
so seven minus twenty means 6:40!

12:55, you would say uno menos cinco because it is easier to say than las doce y cincuenta y cinco

Hello.

There are no problems with the first sentence:
1. “Eran las 8 (ocho) cuando ganamos el juego/partido (the word will depend on what you were playing).

In the second and the third sentences, however, two past forms are possible: the imprefect and the preterite. Without any context, though, it’s impossible to tell which tense you should use. I’ll give you the sentences in both tenses, and you’ll have to decide which one you need in each case, unless you wish to provide more context so that I can tell you what the right tense to use is.

2. “¿Tenías que tomar el tren?” (imperfect)
“¿Tuviste que tomar el tren?” (preterite)

3. Mamá ponía la mesa y papá servía la comida.” (both imperfect)
Mamá puso la mesa y papá sirvió la comida. (preterite)

You use the imperfect if the same thing happened frequently or was a habit.
You use the preterite (in these sentences) if the actions mentioned were performed once only.

Note: Remember that we use a question mark at the beginning of questions (key combination: Alt+168), and also remember to use “tildes” (accents).

Can you translate my personal statement into spanish please?

Setting my mind to develop my career on this field was based on the fact that I have always admired the work of pharmacists, because of their philanthropic personalities. My choice of applying to this course was based on many reasons the most important of them is that I enjoy doing practical work and always show enthusiasm in it, as well ¬as enjoying science subjects and maths therefore showing a higher success in them compared to other subjects. Moreover I have always fascinated and inspired watching my father and my mother who are specialised in dentistry and medicine, taking care of patients and trying all their best to change their emotions.
My greatest stimulation was from the Arabic pharmacist Ibn Al-Baitar who moved this science a giant step forward by writing many books on this field, he is still used as a source of knowledge after more than seven hundred years of his death.
Throughout the last six year, I have maintained a huge range of skills and abilities that make me dependable to establish my future career as a pharmacist. Currently I am doing advanced higher maths and chemistry along with higher physics and computing, I think that I can tackle many difficult problems using the knowledge I gained during the last few years or even bring skills from higher computing, physics and level A Arabic that can directly assist me to make my way simpler.

I have participated in many school events, activities and duties, such as attending many biology and chemistry school trips which triggered my passion to specialise more in this field in future life, helping first years in their S.E. classes. Furthermore I have volunteered to do number partner which involves helping pupils from first years who are struggling in maths by doing games. In addition I have been a member in the drop in centre, peer support training, and took part in organising maths challenges and raising charity money for shoe box appeal and Christmas parsel. Doing Pair support reading three times a week during registration time is one of the duties I picked to when I attended the peer support meeting as a seiner pupil in Harris Academy; it is based on helping younger pupils improve their English reading skills and speed.
Before summer many members of sixth year including me helped organising three days for the first years to visit Harris Academy, explore the building, be prepared to the complete new way of education. As a result to all those activities, I have also benefited myself by increasing my cooperative work, communication skills and teaching methods.
On my studies aside, I occupy myself with many activities after school and during weekends like socialising with friends, playing badminton and video games, practice swimming once in a while, playing chest and keeping in touch with my friends and relatives back home.

I have taken in consideration that being a pharmacist is a big responsibility as it needs a lot of courage, determination and patience, a step from all the hobbies and interests I do on daily bases I would end by giving them up. On the contrary I would be grateful to have the honour to do pharmacy in the future.
In twenty years time I can visualise myself operating my own business with my cousin who is doing the same course at the moment.

Isabella answers:

The Spanish language developed from vulgar Latin, with influence from Celtiberian, Basque and Arabic, in the north of the Iberian Peninsula (see Iberian Romance languages). Typical features of Spanish diachronical phonology include lenition (Latin vita, Spanish vida), palatalization (Latin annum, Spanish año) and diphthongation (stem-changing) of short e and o from Vulgar Latin (Latin terra, Spanish tierra; Latin novus, Spanish nuevo). Similar phenomena can be found in most other Romance languages as well.

During the Reconquista, this northern dialect was carried south, and indeed is still a minority language in northern Morocco.

The first Latin to Spanish dictionary (Gramática de la Lengua Castellana) was written in Salamanca, Spain, in 1492 by Elio Antonio de Nebrija. When Isabella of Castile was presented with the book, she asked, What do I want a work like this for, if I already know the language?, to which he replied, Ma’am, the language is the instrument of the Empire.

From the 16th century on, the language was brought to the Americas, Federated States of Micronesia, Guam, Marianas, Palau and the Philippines by Spanish colonization.

In the 20th century, Spanish was introduced in Equatorial Guinea and Western Sahara and parts of the United States, such as Spanish Harlem in New York City, that had not been part of the Spanish Empire.

Spanish is one of the official languages of the United Nations and the European Union. The majority of its speakers are confined to the Western Hemisphere, and Spain.

With approximately 106 million first-language and second-language speakers, Mexico boasts the largest population of Spanish-speakers in the world. The four next largest populations reside in Colombia (44 million), Spain (c. 40 million), Argentina (39 million) and the United States of America (U.S. Residents age 5 and older who speak Spanish at home number 31 million)
Spanish is the official and most important language in 20 countries: Argentina, Bolivia (co-official Quechua and Aymara), Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea (co-official French), Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay (co-official Guaraní), Peru (co-official Quechua and Aymara), Puerto Rico (co-official English), Spain (co-official Catalan, Galician and Basque), Uruguay, Venezuela, and Western Sahara (co-official Arabic).

In Belize, Spanish holds no official recognition. However, it is the native tongue of about 50% of the population, and is spoken as a second language by another 20%. It is arguably the most important and widely-spoken on a popular level, but English remains the sole official language.

In the United States, Spanish is spoken by three-quarters of its 41.3 million Hispanic population. It is also being learned and spoken by a small, though slowly growing, proportion of its non-Hispanic population for its increasing use in business, commerce, and both domestic and international politics. Spanish does hold co-official status in the state of New Mexico, and in the unincorporated U.S. Territory of Puerto Rico. See Spanish in the United States for further information.

In Brazil, Spanish has obtained an important status as a second language among young students and many skilled professionals. In recent years, with Brazil decreasing its reliance on trade with the USA and Europe and increasing trade and ties with its Spanish-speaking neighbours (especially as a member of the Mercosur trading bloc), much stress has been placed on bilingualism and Spanish proficiency in the country (the same is true of Portuguese proficiency in neighbouring countries). On July 07, 2005, the National Congress of Brazil gave final approval to a bill that makes Spanish a mandatory foreign language in the country’s public and private primary schools [2]. The close genetic relationship between the two languages, along with the fact that Spanish is the dominant and official language of almost every country that borders Brazil, adds to the popularity. Standard Spanish and Ladino (Judæo-Spanish spoken by Sephardic Jews) may also be spoken natively by some Spanish-descended Brazilians, immigrant workers from neighbouring Spanish-speaking countries and Brazilian Sephardim respectively, who have maintained it as their home language. Additionally, in Brazil’s border states that have authority over their educational systems, Spanish has been taught for years. In many other border towns and villages (especially along the Uruguayo-Brazilian border) a mixed language commonly known as Portuñol is also spoken.

In European countries other than Spain, it may be spoken by some of their Spanish-speaking immigrant communities, primarily in Andorra (where it is spoken by a great part of the population, despite having no official status), the Netherlands, Italy, France, Germany and the United Kingdom where there is a strong community in London. There has been a sharp increase in the popularity of Spanish in the United Kingdom over the last few years. It is spoken by much of the population of Gibraltar, though English remains the only official language. Yanito (llanito), an English-Spanish mixed language is also spoken.

Among the countries and territories in Oceania, Spanish is the seventh most spoken language in Australia; where there is a strong community in Sydney. It is also spoken by the approximately 3,000 inhabitants of Easter Island, a territorial possession of Chile. The island nations of Guam, Palau, Northern Marianas, Marshall Islands and Federated States of Micronesia all once had Spanish speakers, but Spanish has long since been forgotten, and now only exists as an influence on the local native languages.

In Asia the Spanish language has long been in decline. Spanish ceased to be an official language of the Philippines in 1987, and it is now spoken by less than 0.01% of the population; 2,658 speakers (1990 Census). However, the sole existing Spanish-Asiatic creole language, Chabacano, is also spoken by an additional 0.4% of the Filipino population; 292,630 (1990 census). Most other Philippine languages contain generous quantities of Spanish loan words. Among other Asian countries, Spanish may also be spoken by pockets of ex-immigrant communities, such as Mexican-born ethnic Chinese deported to China or third and fourth generation ethnic Japanese Peruvians returning to their ancestral homeland of Japan.

In the Middle East and North Africa, small Spanish-speaking communities exist in Israel (both standard Spanish and Ladino), northern Morocco (both standard Spanish and Ladino), Turkey (Ladino), and the Spanish enclaves of Ceuta and Melilla which are part of Spain.

In North America and the Caribbean, Spanish is also spoken by segments of the populations in Aruba, Canada (mainly in Toronto and Montreal), Netherlands Antilles (mainly on Bonaire, Curaçao and St. Maarten), Trinidad and Tobago, and the U.S. Virgin Islands (mainly on St. Croix).

In Antarctica, the territorial claims and permanent bases made by Argentina, Chile, Peru, Uruguay and Spain also place Spanish as the official and working language of these enclaves.

AP EXAMS>>> SPANISH AND ENGLISH LANGUAGE…. WORLD HISTORY QUESTION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1?

If you do leave it blank do they still deduct points or what? what if you guess? how do they know you guess? do they just assume? ALso say if i let 40 questions blank out of 60 would they not deduct points? SO do they deduct points for guessing and leaving it blank or what??? aslo im taking AP spanish, english, and world history any advice would be great!!!!!!

Isabella answers:

For the multiple choice there are five possible choices so you have a 20% chance of guessing the right answer. The AP test will take off a 1/4 of a point for wrong answers and none for blanks. So if you have five questions that you have no clue about and guess on all five, you are likely to lose points rather than gain. Many people say to guess when you can eliminate at least one of the choices. That will give you a 25% chance of getting it right so it breaks even. They don’t know if you guess. Even if you left the entire test blank (not recommended), they will not take points way.

I’m not AP Spanish so I can’t really help you out with that one. For AP English 11, I had a really great teacher that helped us a lot with the multiple choice and the essays. If you researched a little, you may find a good prep book, but I think taking the course is good enough. For AP World History, I bought The Princeton Review and borrowed Barron’s. Haven’t read them yet but they show potential. I also got Barron’s flashcards for World and they’re helpful while studying during breaks.

The first thing I’d say is that you should pay more attention, especially to spelling.
There’s no way you can learn a foreign language if you’re not careful when writing your native language. Once you master English, then you can start trying to learn another language.

How easily could a fluent Spanish speaker learn French?

I’m a near-fluent Spanish speaker who plans to continue studying Spanish until I become really fluent. Once I reach that point, I want to learn another language. I’ve been thinking Italian would be easy, but I’ve always wanted to learn French, and I know the two languages share roots. How easily could a fluent Spanish speaker learn to speak French?

My friend speaks fluent Spanish and she’s learning French, she says its easy and hard, some things are sort of the same and some aren’t. It all really depends on how well you comprehend and remember things. But if it’s something you really want to learn I bet it’ll be easier for you.

Hi!

The best way to become fluent quickly is always going to be to immerse yourself in the language. As very few people can afford the time or money to move to Spain for a few months, we have to make do with immersing ourselves as best we can in the language through online resources and other language-learning tools as often as we can.

I’ve written a whole webpage on the best way to learn Spanish and why. Here are a couple of links to some of my webpages that contain advice, tips and techniques for learning Spanish quickly and easily by using your strengths to their best potential:

http://www.succeed-at-spanish.com/best-way-to-learn-spanish.html

http://www.succeed-at-spanish.com/how-to-learn-spanish-fast.html

The best *free* Spanish learning resources that I’ve come across on the internet are at www.spanishdict.com. They have some really good *free* video lessons for complete beginners along with lessons for intermediate and advanced students.

You will have to pay for better courses and some of them are quite expensive. I would suggest trying the free ones first to see how you get along and only then invest in the more expensive course (the best ones offer 30- to 90-day money back guarantees).

Once you feel confident enough with some basic Spanish you can practice speaking with Spanish-speakers around the world at verbling.com in exchange for English-speaking practice.

You can also stream Spanish TV legally and for free from TV channel websites such as:
but these can be quite difficult to follow while you’re still a beginner.

I’ve learnt several languages successfully (with plenty of hard work) and I’ve found the best way to remain motivated is to ensure that you enjoy your language learning.

This often means finding new and interesting ways to learn phrases and sentences and not necessarily limiting yourself to one or two methods.

Personally, I find that ‘mixing-it-up’ ensures I don’t get bored and, therefore, I remain motivated. A little bit of watching-of-videos here, a little bit of listen-and-repeat there, a few minutes of foreign language radio every now and then, some easy reading (out loud, if possible, like you say) once in a while and so on, and so on … is the fastest and easiest way to learn Spanish.

It certainly works for me!

Best of luck!!
